Ohio State is the latest college football program to have its players try gymnastics during the offseason. Although it was a well-supervised event, I cannot imagine that Ryan Day and the coaching staff in Columbus were thrilled with their shenanigans.
What if one of the athletes didn’t land an attempted stunt and got injured??
Fortunately, it seems like the college football players got out of the gym unscathed. They were actually pretty good!
Ohio State women’s gymnastics is consistent.
The gymnastics program at THE Ohio State University is not a consistent national title contender. However, the Buckeyes rarely miss out on the postseason and typically finishes in the middle of the standings in one of the more dominant conferences.
Ohio State most recently claimed sixth place in the Big Ten. It advanced to the final of the Lexington Regional but ultimately finished fourth to Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Addi Watson is a rising sophomore on the team. She did not compete in 2026 and took a redshirt but she is expected to play a crucial role for the Buckeyes in years to come. The Texas-native hails from College Station. She finished fourth on the vault and top eight in the all-around competition at the high school gymnastics championships in 2024 and 2025. It was a big get for OSU.
Although the spring semester is long since over, Watson is still on campus. The grind doesn’t stop!
College football players are freak athletes!
Watson recently invited some of her fellow student-athletes to test their gymnastics skills. A group of Ohio State football players (who I cannot identify without a jersey number) tried their best on the bars, on the floor, on the rings and on the vault.
All things considered, it was pretty impressive. Many of the football players were already able to backflip but a few of them needed an extra boost from a spotter. They were a lot better than I would expect. Their tumbling stunts were pretty advanced!
As cool as it is to see this kind of crossover, I can’t imagine that Ryan Day and his staff were thrilled to see this video hit social media. Fall camp is not too far out. Summer workouts are already underway. The last thing he needs is to hear that one of his players got injured while doing flips with the gym team. It could’ve been a disaster.
Fortunately, much like Bryce Underwood at Michigan, the Buckeyes did not suffer from an injury. Exhale, coach Day!
