Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt his fourth annual State of the State address on Monday morning. He hit on many of the usual topics, but also included a shot at Lincoln Riley that fell extremely flat.

The first-term Republican, who faces reelection this year, spoke about improving the state’s health care, infrastructure, business climate and education. He also gave his support toward eliminating the state sales tax on groceries.

But all of that is beside the point.

At one point during his State of the State, Stitt spoke about the growth rate in Oklahoma. Parts of the state have seen a massive influx of residents during Stitt’s first term.

While discussing growth rate, he turned his attention directly to the former University of Oklahoma head football coach who left for the same job at USC. Sooners fans not-so-lovingly refer to him as “That B**** Out West.”

Stitt asked rhetorically if you could imagine leaving a place like Norman, Oklahoma for a place like Southern California. He did so with a smirk, referring directly to Riley and the players he brought with him to Los Angeles like quarterback Caleb Williams.

Stitt’s joke received a smattering of chuckles right away, but after he paused for comedic effect, the chamber burst out in laughter and applause.

Stitt was very proud of himself and his joke. However, it didn’t land like he thought, because most people would probably rather live in Southern California than Norman, Oklahoma. That isn’t a knock on Norman, which is a lovely college town, but it’s just the way that it is.

Eddie Radosevich summed it up best, as he always does:
