The Philadelphia Eagles have been the best team in the NFL throughout the 2022 regular season. Their NFL-best 13-2 record shows just how good they’ve been.

Much of that success comes down to the big step forward taken by third-year quarterback Jalen Hurts.

With the aid of perhaps the league’s best supporting cast, Hurts has blossomed. The former second-round pick has thrown for 3,472 yards, 22 touchdowns and just five interceptions to go along with 747 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

But as the playoffs near, Hurts’ status is in limbo following a sprained shoulder suffered in a Week 15 victory over the Chicago Bears. The shoulder injury cost Hurts a start against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16, a game that Dallas went on to win 40-34.

Now he’s aiming to return Sunday against the New Orleans Saints with the Eagles one win away from locking up the top seed in the NFC.

Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni offered an update on his star quarterback’s health on Friday. But what he said didn’t seem to make the situation any clearer.

Nick Sirianni Says Eagles Are ‘Still Sorting Through’ Jalen Hurts Injury Status

As the clock ticks down before Philly’s 1 p.m. ET kick with the Saints on Sunday, it doesn’t appear they’re any more certain regarding what they’ll do at quarterback. Hurts returned to practice on Thursday, but the Eagles are still proceeding with caution with the playoff just around the corner.

“We’re still sorting through that,” Sirianni said. “Obviously, Jalen had a good practice [Thursday] and looked like he did some things really well. … Still haven’t decided anything yet. We’ve still got a couple days.”

“The velocity of the ball was good, the accuracy was good, that he felt good,” Sirianni said of his performance. “Those are the main things and that’s what you want to see.” – via ESPN

The Saints, meanwhile, would be happy to see the Eagles proceed with caution. New Orleans is just 6-9 on the year but somehow just one game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the NFC South lead with two weeks remaining.

Adding to the plot, Philadelphia owns New Orleans’ 2023 first-round pick following a trade last offseason that landed New Orleans a first-round pick that it used on wideout Chris Olave.
