Broncos Being Favored Against Bears Despite Miami Blowout Sums Up Chicago’s Season So Far

It’s been a very, very rough season for a Chicago Bears team that fell to 0-3 on the year following a 41-10 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday, and while the team might be hoping to secure its first victory of the season against the similarly beleaguered Broncos next week, sportsbooks don’t seem to think it’s in the cards.

Chicago’s season has been hampered by the increasingly unignorable realization Justin Fields is not the franchise quarterback the Bears were hoping he’d become, other players who don’t seem to be putting in the effort expected of them, the resignation of defensive coordinator Alan Williams amidst some very suspicious circumstances, and (as if that wasn’t enough) the theft of around $100k in equipment that disappeared from Soldier Field.

The only real bright spots stemming from the loss to Kansas City are that A) the game itself was overshadowed by the presence of Taylor Swift at Arrowhead Stadium and B) the 31-point deficit had nothing on what the Broncos ended up dealing with after getting annihilated by the Dolphins in a game that saw Miami walk away with the 70-20 win.

Both of those squads remain winless on the season, and while that won’t be the case after they go head-to-head on Sunday afternoon (unless they do the funniest thing possible by tying), you may think the Bears would have a theoretical edge against a team coming off one of the biggest blowouts in NFL history. However, that’s not actually the case.

On Sunday, the Bears opened as 2.5-point underdogs for their showdown with the Broncos on October 1st (which seems like it should be a Thursday Night Football game based on the caliber of play we’re seemingly in store for), but it seems like bettors are confident Denver will win by an even larger margin when you consider most oddsmakers have them listed at 3.5-point favorites as of Monday morning.

There’s no way to know who will win, but based on what we’ve seen so far, the real losers will be everyone who devotes three hours of their lives to watching them play.
