Longstanding Super Bowl Trend Appears Ominous For San Francisco 49ers Chances

The San Francisco 49ers enter Super Bowl 58 as slight favorites over the Kansas City Chiefs at just about any sports book you can find.

But while Vegas always knows, it appears that this time they may not have done their homework.

Because there are several universal factors at play that indicate that it’s the Chiefs, not the 49ers, who should be considered the favorites.

Yes, there’s the whole Patrick Mahomes vs. Brock Purdy deal. But that’s not what this article is about.

For one, there’s the moon.

What the hell does the moon have to do with the Super Bowl? Well, apparently a lot.

The day of the Super Bowl is a waxing crescent moon.

Who cares, right?

Well, the Chiefs are 19-1 in the last five under waxing crescent conditions. In a game that’s essentially a pick ’em, we can’t rule out the effects of an ideal moon phase for one day.

But if that seems a little silly to you, we’ve got more.

There’s also the travel fact.

To which you may say- “they travel almost a full week before the game. Why would that matter?”

Well, here’s why.

Twitter user Jay Cuda, who also picked up on the moon phase, found another trend that leans the way of Kansas City.

Since 2002, eight Super Bowls have involved teams traveling in opposite directions. That is, one team traveling east and the other West.

In the previous seven editions, every single team that has traveled west has lifted the Lombardi Trophy.

That includes 2013, when San Francisco went in to Super Bowl 47 against the Baltimore Ravens and walked out of the Superdome empty-handed.

So yeah, there might just be something there.

Given the moon, the travel trend, and Patrick Mahomes vs. Brock Purdy, you might just want to put your money on Kansas City.
