The Houston Texans announced they were firing Lovie Smith almost immediately after the Week 18 win.
Some speculate that the Texans fired Smith due to the fact he took the number one pick away from the organization. Regardless, the NFL world isn’t happy with Houston.
This is now two years in a row where the Texans have fired a head coach after just one season. First, it was David Culley last year, now it’s Lovie Smith. The organization clearly never viewed either of these guys as the long-term answer. However, they’re not showing any potential head coaching candidate a reason to work for the franchise.
What are the Texans doing. What kind of operation is this where you don’t have any convictions about supporting the coaches you hire. Who is going to want to coach there if you might only get one year to implement your plans. Two years in a row is ridiculous. https://t.co/Lrn6jyVs7P

Former NFL running back Fred Taylor calls it as he sees it.
Hiring Lovie Smith to an extremely untalented Texans team was only done to save face, checklist the Rooney rule, and erase the racial accusations it faced less than a year ago. And to fire him less than a year into rebuilding its franchise shows they are full of crap. Crazy!

Robert Griffin III even blasts the Texans with a similar opinion as Taylor.
The Houston Texans have fired Lovie Smith after 1 year. Using 2 Black Head Coaches to tank and then firing them after 1 year shouldn’t sit right with anyone.

Meanwhile, many are praising Lovie Smith for winning that Week 18 win.
Lovie Smith costing the Texans the No. 1 pick knowing he was done is an all-time, middle finger, power move

In the end, the Houston Texans’ franchise is a hot mess. It’ll be interesting to see who they hire as the new head coach. Maybe this time around the organization will keep this guy around longer than just one season.
