Usually Tony Dungy is one of the more well-liked individuals in the football world. However, he’s catching a ton of heat for a now-deleted tweet.

Apparently, the Hall of Fame head coach sent a tweet endorsing a “transphobic urban myth.”

According to Sports Illustrated, Tony Dungy responded to the news about “the Minnesota House of Representatives discussing the possibility of placing menstrual products in men’s restrooms, ostensibly geared toward transgender men.”

Dungy’s tweet read, “That’s nothing. Some school districts are putting litter boxes in the school bathrooms for the students who identify as cats. Very important to address every student’s needs.”

The litter box reference is an urban myth that has been debunked numerous times. Which is insane because why would anyone even believe that in the first place? Well, it appears Tony Dungy did as he sent an ill-advised tweet about it.

“The tweet drew widespread condemnation and was deleted after about seven hours,” per Sports Illustrated. That’s a long time to let something like that hang around in the public eye. Even so, Tony Dungy hasn’t made a public apology or statement regarding his tweet. However, considering he holds a TV job, he’s likely to address it at some point.

This isn’t the first time Dungy has been under fire. According to Sports Illustrated, he “attracted criticism in the past for his statements on LGBTQ issues. When the [LA] Rams drafted openly gay defensive lineman Michael Sam in 2014, Dungy said he would not have made the pick ‘not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.'”

With that said, football fans are waiting to see if Tony Dungy addresses his deleted tweet or not.
