5-Star Decommitment’s Comments Fan Deion Sanders To Texas A&M Flames

Deion Sanders lost the pledge of his top recruit over the weekend as five-star prospect Winston Watkins decommitted from Colorado. The wide receiver had some interesting comments to make following that decision.

He hinted at uncertainty surrounding the head coaching position in Boulder.

“I don’t know if Prime will still be there when I get there,” Watkins told Rivals recruiting. Only a high school junior, he still has two years before he arrives on a college campus.

The wideout, who is the cousin of former Clemson star Sammy Watkins, had been a member of the Buffs’ 2025 class. That group now ranks 20th in the country with the talented pass catcher no longer in the picture.

Rivals lists the wide receiver as the 7th best player in the nation, regardless of position, and the third-best pass catcher. 24/7 Sports had the following to say about his outlook at the next level.

A slot receiver with some juice that has already established himself as one of the top offensive playmakers in the class of 2025… Pretty advanced as a route runner for his age… Has the speed and quickness to emerge as a chunk-play machine at the Power Five level.

It’s certainly a blow to the Buffs, who are looking to rebuild their program under Coach Prime. This is actually the second decommitment of Watkins’ recruiting timeline, as he’d previously made a pledge to play at Texas A&M.

Interestingly enough, many believe the Aggies to be an integral part of his most recent decision, and his remarks precede what should be a very busy offseason.

Will Deion Sanders stay at Colorado?

Texas A&M is one of four college football programs to fire their head coach midseason. Jimbo Fisher is out, despite his massive $75 million buyout, after being “stuck in neutral” over the last few seasons.

That large number didn’t scare Aggie brass away from making the decision, and the program certainly isn’t hurting for money.

That being said, they’ll likely look to make a splash hire this offseason.

Many are already beginning to link Deion Sanders to Texas A&M, and they believe College Station to be the perfect fit. Not only would Sanders be upgraded to the Lonestar State flush with high school prospects, but he’d also see a massive boost in current talent given the Aggies’ recent recruiting success.

Sanders would be given unlimited resources by a program that’s desperate to compete with instate rival Texas, and he’d be coaching in America’s top college football conference with a chance to go up against his Aflac buddy Nick Saban.

What’s stopping him from making the move?

Well, there may be two reasons. Shedeur and Shilo.

Both are expected to return to Boulder next season as they finish out their amateur careers. That hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about the move to TAMU following Watkins’ recent statement.

“Looks like Texas A&M already gave Prime an offer.”

“This pretty much confirms it.”

“Good call, kid. He probably won’t be. Texas A&M is going to do their thing.”

“He said it out loud!”

“Lil Bro knows something…”

It will be a very interesting offseason in both College Station and Boulder, and the speculation surrounding Deion Sanders will continue up until a hire is made.

Despite Coach Prime’s prior message about staying in Colorado for the near future, the rumors are already having an effect on recruiting.
