Colin Farrell’s Latest Comments On ‘The Batman’ Are Further Evidence That The Movie Is Going To Be Fire

Wednesday marked the 12-year anniversary of Heath Ledger’s passing. I posted about it on our social media accounts, I wrote an article about what the sequel to The Dark Knight would have been had he not passed away, largely due to my personal love of the movie.

I was born in the year 1993, which is right during the height of Batmania, as Michael Keaton’s turn as the character, combined with the cartoon Batman: The Animated Series, had elevated the Dark Knight to a cultural status beyond that of a ’60s camp punchline.

Over the years, the character has had its ups — The Dark Knight — its downs — the infamous 1997 disaster that was Batman & Robin — and everything in between.

Unfortunately for fans of the character, though, the Caped Crusader has yet to return to the heights of Christopher Nolan’s 2008 masterpiece. But with the release of The Batman less than two years away, I’m hopeful that the Dark Knight will return to those creative peaks.

Directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, War for the Planet of the Apes) and starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role, The Batman stars a murderer’s row of character actors. Not only is Colin Farrell playing Penguin, but the film features Paul Dano as Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Peter Sarsgaard in an undisclosed role (probably Harvey Dent).

Farrell is already in the process of filming the movie, as he was spotted on set in London earlier this year. Obviously taking a break from production to promote his latest movie The Gentleman, Farrell stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live and was naturally asked about The Batman.

“I’m in the process of talking to Matt Reeves, who’s the director, who wrote the script, and wrote a really beautiful, dark, moving script, really gorgeous,” Farrell said. “It’s all very hush hush,” he added, “but it’s a really beautiful script that he wrote and he has a real love for it, Matt. So, we’re in the process of finishing designing the aesthetic of the character.”

Farrell is hardly the first actor to wax lyrical about the project, as both Pattinson and Sarsgaard have also been vocal about their excitement for the film.
