Leaker Claims Release Of ‘GoldenEye 007’ Remaster Is Just Around The Corner

If you grew up with an N64 (or were one of the unfortunate souls who needed to go to a friend’s house to use theirs), there are probably a few games you associate with what were likely some of the best years of your childhood.

Nintendo gave the world a fairly formidable lineup of titles to pick from over the course of the 1990s while ushering in a new era of video games. That includes classics like Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. However, it’s impossible to discuss that particular era without talking about one of the most beloved projects to come out of it: GoldenEye 007

GoldenEye was released in 1997 and gave gamers the chance to play their way through the 1995 James Bond film of the same name while also getting into heated arguments about whether or not it was fair to use Oddjob during split-screen multiplayer matches (for what it’s worth, one of the developers has previously said he thinks it was cheating).

A few years ago, I got the chance to revisit GoldenEye on an old N64 console and quickly realized nostalgia had clouded my memory of a video game with laughably archaic graphics and frustratingly clunky controls. However, it was hard not to be intrigued by the idea of a remastered version—like the one that was almost released on the Xbox 360 before it was ultimately shelved.

However, we were treated to a very compelling twist at the end of 2021 courtesy of a leak that suggested an updated version would, in fact, be hitting modern consoles at some point. Details concerning the rollout have been fairly scarce, but a list of achievements surfaced on the Xbox last summer a few months before Nintendo announced GoldenEye would also be coming to the Switch.

There’s still no telling exactly when we can expect the remaster to drop (initial reports pointed to a vague “early 2023” rollout). However, according to Game Rant, another leaker known for accurately predicting developments concerning Microsoft and Xbox recently claimed we can expect the new and (presumably) improved GoldenEye 007 to drop at the end of January.

As of this writing, neither Microsoft nor Nintendo have made any official announcements concerning the release. With that said, when you combine this development with everything we’ve learned so far, it seems like it’s only a matter of time.
