Man Drives Through South Carolina For Work. Then He Finds One Of The Last Known KFC Buffets Around

A man found one of the last remaining KFC buffets in Georgetown, South Carolina. Then he gave a positive review of the establishment that had his commenters wanting to visit.

Ben Jones (@benjonescomedy), a nationally touring comedian, found and reviewed one of the last remaining KFC buffets in the United States. Commenters referred to his video, which received more than 113,000 views, as “spectacular journalism.”

“A lot of these things have gone the way of the stegosaurus… So there’s not a lot of KFC buffets left. But today in Georgetown, South Carolina, I just happened to come across one of the last remaining KFC buffets,” Jones said.

What Did The KFC Buffet Offer?

Jones, who had driven by a billboard for the KFC buffet, said that fate smiled on him. He decided to take a quick trip to KFC, as he had the buffet before in the past. Locations that he went to previously had closed during the pandemic, leaving him with few options. But, seeing as Georgetown had a buffet, he knew he wanted to make a stop.

Jones said the buffet he visited had the “Original Recipe classic KFC chicken,” but that customers can only receive a few pieces at a time. Additionally, customers have access to the Extra Crispy chicken, grilled chicken, chicken hearts, and chicken livers.

The KFC buffet had sides such as fried okra, mashed potatoes, biscuits, corn on the cob, and a “chicken bog” made of rice and some canned vegetables. The buffet offered coleslaw alongside fresh cucumber slices. It also offered customers multiple desserts such as Jell-O and peach cobbler.

What Did He Think Of The Buffet?

For Jones’ first course, he got a large Original Recipe chicken breast, a chicken thigh, and chicken hearts. He got fried okra and mashed potatoes with gravy as his sides. Jones appeared to enjoy the first plate, but he said the drink that came with the buffet experience was “tiny.” The small drink size meant Jones had to get up repeatedly to get refills.

For his second plate, Jones got chicken thighs, chicken livers with gravy, corn on the cob, “chicken bog” and coleslaw. He said the chicken bog wasn’t “terrible,” but it was “eh.”

For his third and final plate, Jones got a chicken thigh alongside some desserts. Namely, the peach cobbler, a spoonful of chocolate pudding and some Jell-O.

“Now when it’s all said and done, I have to give the KFC buffet a pretty generally good endorsement,” Jones said toward the end of his video. “For like less than $14, it’s all you can eat KFC. Granted, some of the items could be better stocked, could be fresher… But the staff is nice.”

In a comment to BroBible, Jones clarified that the more standard KFC items were better than non-traditional ones. “The canned or no menu filler options I tried to not fill up on as much,” he added.

Jones also clarified that his previous experience with the buffets matched the Georgetown location. “The menu offerings and buffet layout were pretty much the same,” he added.

How Many Unlimited KFC Buffets Are Left?

Jones said “there’s only about 15” of them left in the entire country. Meanwhile, the Daily Meal confirmed there are around 16 locations that have buffet offerings.

Both of these figures, however, are estimates. KFC does not list which KFCs have buffets, which can make it tricky to actually find them.

Customers and diehard fans have tried to fill in the gaps with their own data. The Facebook group KFC Buffet aficionados has a publicly available spreadsheet that documents KFCs that currently have buffets. The list has 33 of them active, of which 32 were confirmed to still operate in 2026.

A Growing Fanbase

KFC buffet aficionados have also taken the love for them even further. They’ve also encouraged commenters to try to bring back the buffets.

They were closed en masse in the early 2000s, similar to a number of other buffets across the country.

One post, which received more than 1,400 comments, asked the group to identify KFCs with remaining buffet equipment to “bring back KFC buffets across the country!”

Multiple other posts from the group have documented recent openings of KFC buffets, which marks a growing, rather than declining, number of buffets across the country. One user even created a “KFC pilgrimage,” which maps out all of the 32 active buffets for customers to visit on one trip.

More and more people seem ecstatic about them, with Jones’ commenters even saying they wanted to make trips to the buffets.

“I wish we had a kfc buffet near me,” one viewer said on Jones’ post. “I’d absolutely go here!”
