Three years ago, some scientists announced that they think there is a 1-in-3 chance that we are actually living in a simulation.

Then, another study came out that put that number at a 1-in-2 chance, or 50 percent. And that number could actually go up, the study claimed.

Fast forward to today and that may have already happened.

In 2022, Dr. Melvin Vopson of the University of Portsmouth’s School of Mathematics and Physics, discovered a new law of physics.

He believes this new law of physics will “aid future studies and developments in a diverse range of sciences, including genetics, evolutionary biology, virology, computing, big data, physics, and cosmology.”

It also may help determine whether or not we are actually living in a simulation.

Vopson said in a statement that after his discovery of a new law of physics, “What I wanted to do next is put the law to the test and see if it could further support the simulation hypothesis by moving it on from the philosophical realm to mainstream science.”

In a new study, published in AIP Advances, Vopson takes a hard look at that possibility.

“The paper also provides an explanation for the prevalence of symmetry in the universe”, said Dr. Vopson.

“Symmetry principles play an important role with respect to the laws of nature, but until now there has been little explanation as to why that could be. My findings demonstrate that high symmetry corresponds to the lowest information entropy state, potentially explaining nature’s inclination towards it.

“This approach, where excess information is removed, resembles the process of a computer deleting or compressing waste code to save storage space and optimize power consumption. And as a result supports the idea that we’re living in a simulation.”

In a video discussing the study, Dr. Vopson says, “It’s not far fetched to assume that an advanced civilization or maybe ourselves in the future, will reach the technological level where we can simulate our world or the whole universe and is indistinguishable from the reality.”

“The next steps to complete these studies require empirical testing”, Dr. Vopson explained.

“One possible route would be my experiment devised last year to confirm the fifth state of matter in the universe – and change physics as we know it – using particle-antiparticle collisions.”
