Everything old is new again. There are currently reboots and remakes in the works for Willy Wonka, RoboCop, Lethal Weapon, Bill & Ted, House Party, The Crow, and Major League, just to name a few. We can now add The Blair Witch Project to the list of old entertainment properties that are being brought back from the dead.

The Blair Witch Project, which was directed and edited by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, was originally released on January 25, 1999, at the Sundance Film Festival. The faux documentary-style horror film became one of the most successful independent movies of all-time and made over $248 million at the worldwide box office. The film was followed by two sequels: Book of Shadows in 2000 and Blair Witch in 2016.

Lionsgate plans to bring the found footage film to the small screen. The television series based on The Blair Witch Project will be under Lionsgate’s new digital initiative, Studio L. Whether or not audiences are still captivated by the lore of witches who like to play with sticks is yet to be seen.
