Deebo Samuel did not take lightly to comments made about his quarterback, Brock Purdy. The 49ers wideout blasted a pair of the most vocal critics following a 33-19 loss to Baltimore.

In the matchup, Purdy threw a quartet of interceptions before leaving the game with an injury in the fourth quarter. It was quite possibly his worst performance as a pro, and it put San Francisco in a three-way tie for the No.1 overall playoff seed.

Entering the game, Purdy was the MVP favorite. He led the NFC in passing yards and scores, though not everyone believed him to be deserving of the honor.

Cam Newton was heard downplaying the San Francisco passer’s output, as well as that of Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott, calling them “game managers” as opposed to MVP candidates.

After Purdy’s four-interception night on Monday, those words resurfaced.

Newton wasn’t the only critic, however. Linebacker Micah Parsons posted his thoughts on Purdy midgame with the 49ers falling behind to the Ravens by three scores.

“Down 21 and there no shots or development throws!” he said. “Should tell you all you need to know!”

On Wednesday, receiver Deebo Samuel came to Purdy’s defense.

Appearing on the Up and Adams Show, the pass catcher blasted Newton.

“Cam Newton, stop texting my phone,” Samuel said. “You was a fan like two weeks ago, that’s mad crazy. You wanted me on your podcast after talking about my QB, which is funny to me.”

Newton wasn’t the only target. Samuel then turned his attention to Parsons, whose Cowboys the 49ers beat earlier in the season.

“Bro, we beat you like 42 to whatever the score was… I don’t know why he’s so bothered by what we’ve got going on over here.”

San Francisco beat Dallas 42-10 in October. They also beat the Cowboys in the playoffs last season.

Parsons went as far as to say that he could successfully play quarterback in the 49ers’ offense given the weapons the unit has around Purdy. Samuel thinks the linebacker should focus on his own team, who’s lost two straight games.

As for Purdy, his MVP odds took a tumble following that brutal showing on MNF. We’ll see if he can right the ship next week against the Commanders.
