John Henry Selling Liverpool Looks Like It Could Be Part Of A Plan To Buy The Washington Commanders

John Henry is absolutely disgustingly wealthy. Celebrity Net Worth estimates that he’s worth somewhere around $3.5 billion. Others say that number is closer to $4 billion. But what’s $500 million here or there?

Still, Fenway would only land somewhere in the middle of the pack among the net worths of all NFL owners should he purchase a team. Front Office Sports, meanwhile, reports that he would like to do just that.

Fenway Sports Group owner John Henry is a possible contender for the NFL team, according to the New York Post, after current owner Dan Snyder hired Bank of America earlier this month to explore a sale of the team. – FOS

But more interestingly, Henry’s interest in purchasing the Commanders may explain another massive business transaction he recently made.

Henry, who is the founder of Fenway Sports Group, also owns the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool FC. But earlier this week he acquired the services of banking giants Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs to explore a sale of the legendary English soccer team.

BBC Sports reports that the club could sell for more than $4 billion. Henry and co. acquired the club for around 340 million in 2010.

Liverpool Sale Could Be Part Of Plan To Buy Washington Commanders

The New York Post suggests that the sale may well foreshadow an impending bid for the Commanders.

“This may be a precursor to him buying the Commanders,” a source close to recent deals to sell NFL franchises said of Henry. “John wants to own an NFL team. They will look at the Commanders.”

Washington owner Daniel Snyder recently took the first steps toward a potential sale. But Snyder has since walked back any talk of actually selling. He and the organization are also currently under investigation by the office of the Washington D.C. Attorney General’s office regarding the team’s workplace culture.

Depending on the results of the investigation, Snyder may have no choice but to sell.
