The Fraser River in British Columbia, Canada is the number one destination on earth to catch a large white sturgeon.

It has produced sturgeon that are longer than trucks and fish that look like dinosaurs. Canadians know all about the Fraser River, including former NHL stars like Vezina Trophy winner Pete Peeters who caught the largest white sturgeon measured in modern history.

Following in the footsteps of fellow NHL players, 2-time Stanley Cup winner Kris Versteeg recently went out fishing with Sturgeon Slayers, on a charity trip, and caught a truly gargantuan fish.

Just look down the barrel of this massive fish. It is such an aerodynamic species but the appearance of prehistoric scales gives it the look of an animal from millions of years ago:

Sturgeon Slayers mentioned on Twitter that this fishing trip was part of a ‘fundraiser donation’ for the 1616 Foundation which is a ” 16-week mental, physical and social wellbeing experience for youth hockey team.”

For comparison’s sake, here is a look at the massive white sturgeon caught on the Fraser River by former NHL goalie Kris Versteeg.

Should you ever be in the market to catch a record-setting white sturgeon on the Fraser River, look no further than the Sturgeon Slayers. Information about fishing and charters can be found on the Sturgeon Slayers website.
