If you’re familiar with Drake’s history of sports fandom, you’re probably aware he’s essentially the celebrity equivalent of the guy with “Cowboys-Lakers-Yankees-Crimson Tide” in his Twitter bio thanks to his tendency to hop on whatever bandwagon appears to have the most momentum when he’s deciding who to support.
However, that history has also taught us athletes usually don’t want to have the actor-turned-musician in their corner based on the many, many times the infamous “Drake Curse” has reared its ugly head over the years.
While the Toronto Raptors were able to avoid falling victim to the rapper’s negative vibes en route to winning a title in 2019, the same can’t be said for the many others who’ve been victimized by his bad juju—a lengthy list that includes:
- Anthony Joshua
- University of Alabama football
- Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens
- The Toronto Maple Leafs
- Jose Aldo and Kamaru Usman
- FC Barcelona
However, there is one college football team that’s not only been spared the wrath of Drake but appears to benefit from the release of new music based on a pretty wild stat concerning their record after he drops a new record.
The Michigan State Spartans are undefeated in football games played directly after the release of a new Drake album
On Wednesday, Justin Thind—who covers Michigan State for The Athletic—sent out a fairly jaw-dropping tweet highlighting the fact that the Spartans have a 10-0 record in football games played in the immediate wake of the release of a new Drake album.
It seemed like that impressive streak would’ve been subjected to a serious test on Saturday, as Drake was slated to drop Her Loss (a collaborative album with 21 Savage) the day before Michigan State headed down to Ann Arbor to face off against No. 4 Michigan. However, the artist announced the project is being pushed to November 4th after producer Noah “40” Shebib was diagnosed with COVID.
With that said, if the release isn’t pushed yet again, the Anti Drake Curse will still have some work to do when the Spartans face off against a Fighting Illini team that’s currently 6-1 and ranked 17th in the country on November 5th.
