The Hero World Challenge may not be an official PGA Tour event, but that doesn’t mean it’s not must-watch golf. After all, the winner will take home $1 million and Official World Golf ranking points are on the line as well.

Here are five things to keep an eye on at this week’s event in the Bahamas.

Warm Up For The Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup gets underway next week in Australia, which explains the Wednesday start and Saturday finish for this week’s event.

It’s really only a warm-up for the U.S. team as 11 of their 12 players are in the field this week with Dustin Johnson being the lone American not teeing it up after he withdrew as he continues to recover from knee surgery. None of the International team members are in the field this week.

Not only will it be a nice tune-up for a number of guys that haven’t teed it up too often this Fall season, but it’ll also be a great chance for the American team to get everything settled off the course and gel ahead of trip to Australia next week.

Rickie Fowler Is Back

Speaking of U.S. team members in the field, eyes will be on Rickie Fowler this week as he is making his first start since the Tour Championship in August. He got married in October and then withdrew from the Mayakoba Classic due to an infection on his honeymoon.

So, it’s accurate to say that getting four rounds of tournament golf in before taking on the International team on the other side of the planet will be beneficial for Fowler.

Fowler was selected by playing captain Tiger Woods for the Presidents Cup as Brooks Koepka’s replacement as he recovers from an injury.

A Small Field Of Some Of The World’s Best

There are only 18 players teeing it up this week, but when the highest-ranked player in the field is Jordan Spieth at No. 44 in the world, you know it’s a fantastic field.

With such a small field we’ll get to see pretty much every shot each of these players hit, which is always a plus for any golf fan.

With the likes of Patrick Cantlay, Jon Rahm, Justin Rose, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Bryson DeChambeau and Woods leading the highly touted field, you know there is going to be some magic out there.

It’s The Bahamas In December…

Who doesn’t want to watch the world’s best golfers take on a course in sunny, 75-degree weather in the Bahamas in December? Even just watching from your couch, maybe next to a window with snow coming down, it’s still a nice little escape and reminder that in a few short months you too will be playing golf again in a short-sleeve shirt depending on where you live.

Following Hurricane Dorian, ONE Bahamas fund, founded by Tiger Woods, Justin Timberlake and other organizations pledged $6 million toward recovery efforts with a dollar-for-dollar match in hopes of raising $12 million to help those impacted by the hurricane.

On Monday it was also announced that additional donations will be made to the ONE Bahamas Fund through a charity challenge to the players. During the 2019 Hero World Challenge, the tournament will make a donation of $500 for each birdie, $1,000 for each eagle and $2,500 for each hole in one.
