Ryan Reynolds Admits He Never Even Bothered To See The Infamously Awful ‘Green Lantern’

I’ve been a huge Ryan Reynolds fan ever since I saw him play a consummate asshole in the cinematic classic that is Waiting (a movie that somehow still isn’t in the Library of Congress), and based on his impressively entertaining social media presence, it’s become clear that he’s just as funny in real life as many of the characters that he’s played onscreen (in addition to being a cool husband and just a pretty good all-around dude).

I’d love to say that Reynolds can do no wrong in my eyes but it’s impossible to ignore some of the blotches on his résumé. Anyone who was unfortunate enough to spend 90 minutes of their life watching R.I.P.D. knows exactly what I’m talking about, as does anyone who managed to make it through all of 2011’s famously awful Green Lantern, which served as Reynold’s first foray into the superhero genre.

The movie has more flaws than a “Before” photo in an acne commercial and was a gigantic flop at the box office thanks in no small part to its dismal rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which caused plenty of people to think about watching it before carrying on with their life. It turns how Reynolds is one of those people, as he recently shared with EW:

“I’ve never seen the full final version of Green Lantern. I saw a very late stage rough cut of the film. Now, that isn’t to say that I didn’t want to see it because I didn’t like it. I have movies that have been received pretty well that I haven’t seen, and then I have movies that I have seen 100 times that people don’t like but I just like.”

That’s a very diplomatic way to admit your movie was trash.

Thankfully, Reynolds was able to bounce back with the wildly successful Deadpool, and based on its immensely amusing marketing campaign, it seems like there’s a very good chance the sequel will follow in its footsteps when it’s released on May 18.
