Deion Sanders is a hot name surrounding the Texas A&M head coaching search, which he was asked about in a press conference this week. Coach Prime shut the rumors down, saying that he hasn’t thought about moving on from Boulder.

Sanders referenced his family in his response, many of whom are connected to the Colorado program. It offered a stark contrast to his departure from Jackson State.

Instead, the coach is focused on his future at CU. He spoke of the program he’s continuing to build, with his goal remaining to reach bowl eligibility.

At 4-6 this season, the Buffs will need to win their last two games of the year to achieve that feat, which will come against Washington State and Utah.

While the record won’t impress most casual fans, it’s worth noting that four of the team’s losses have come by just one score. That includes last week versus Arizona, which ended on a walk-off Wildcat field goal.

Still, it shows Coach Prime could be moving ahead of schedule considering many said he had the worst roster in college football before season’s start.

His impact on the program has been evident with Colorado receiving a massive boost in media attention following his arrival. Ticket and merchandise sales have soared, as have NIL opportunities for his players.

The combination of (relative) on-field success and off-field spotlight have many interested in his services. Texas A&M potentially falls into that category.

Deion Sanders responds to Texas A&M speculation.

Sanders suggested that he’s not going anywhere with his reasoning hopefully easing the minds of the Colorado faithful, as well as recruits having second thoughts. Prime referenced his family ties to Boulder, most notably, those members that are a part of the CU athletic department.

“I am here… My mother is here. My sister is here. My dog is here. My daughter is here. My three sons are here.”

It’s been widely publicized that his sons Shedeur and Shilo star on the Buffs’ football roster, but his daughter is a member of the women’s basketball team, too. Another son also runs social media accounts for the football team.

The response offered a stark contrast to what was seen during his final days at Jackson State.

Reflecting on Coach Prime’s move to Colorado.

After three years at JSU, reports began to surface of a potential move to the Power Five level. He’d previously garnered interest from TCU, but he ultimately pulled the trigger on Colorado last year.

And he wasn’t hiding the attention being received from programs outside of Jackson.

In a “60 Minutes” interview, he was honest about P5 offers as opposed to denying like we often see from college coaches.

“I’m going to have to entertain it. Straight up. I’d be a fool not to.”

A few weeks later, the interest from Colorado reached its peak. Again, Sanders didn’t shy away from the reports. In fact, he actually joked with JSU broadcasting director Rob Jay about his pending departure.

It wasn’t a shock to see Coach Prime leave for Colorado. It would, however, be a surprise should Deion Sanders move on to Texas A&M.
