Michael Irvin Sides With Tony Romo After Deion Sanders Went Full Scorched Earth On Him

If you’re going to go out of your way to insult one of the greatest athletic icons of all-time, you best brace for the pushback. And boy did Deion deliver. By now, you’re probably aware of Romo’s not-so-subtle jab at Deion Sanders’ allergy to tackling during the Sunday Chiefs/Cowboys broadcast.

Talking about Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters, Romo said that “Peters doesn’t want to tackle — that’s one of the things, I’m telling you, he makes Deion Sanders look good sometimes.”

Deion responded by going full scorched earth on Romo–covering everything from his affinity for throwing interceptions, his inability to win big games, and getting his job taken by Dak Prescott.

Another Dallas Cowboy legend weighed in on the situation and is officially #TeamRomo. Michael Irvin gave his opinion on the tiff during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.

“I didn’t like that at all, man. I didn’t like that last night. I saw it, I saw it. Here’s the kicker for me. I love Tony, I talk with Tony all the time. I love Deion. But it’s like, for so long Deion, you’ve made a living off telling people that my job is covering. Now when someone uses it within the framework of what you said … So when Tony used it and for him to come back that way yeah that’s crazy. It’s having fun, guys. You’ve gotta be able to laugh at yourself…

But yeah that was crazy. I didn’t think the comment Tony made was bad to be honest with you. And everybody says it, even Deion says it. So I don’t know. It wasn’t like he said he couldn’t play. He just said hey that’d make Deion proud or something.”

Irvin’s right. Deion has gloated in the past about how he hates tackling. “That’s not what they pay me for,” he said before Super Bowl XXIX.. “That’s what linebackers are paid to do. Who likes to get hit? Who likes that? I like to break up passes and dance.”

With that said, if my mom is being a total bitch and I say ‘My mom is being a total bitch,’ it’s okay. But if one of my friends says ‘Dude, your mom is being a total bitch,’ we’re going to drop the gloves. That’s just the way it is. So, I guess I stand with Deion.
