Tom Brady is probably the most polarizing football player in recent memory not named “Colin Kaepernick” but I think there are at least a couple of things we can all agree on regardless of how you feel about him.

At this point in his seemingly endless career, even Brady’s biggest haters have to concede he’s probably the best quarterback in NFL history. On the flipside of the coin, I think even his most diehard fans would admit he’s also one of the weirdest dudes to ever play the game.

Over the past year or so, a number of reports have emerged that highlight just how quirky he is, whether we’re talking about the time he took shots of water at a bar, his irrational hatred of strawberries, or the way he introduces himself to new teammates.

However, we’ve also been treated to some stories that highlight how he’s managed to make it to the top of his game despite being kind of a strange bird— including an anecdote former Patriot Brandon Spikes shared with Sports Illustrated while recounting his time playing alongside Brady:

“I had one of my best years my third season. I’d been playing off the charts. And I didn’t get picked to go to the Pro Bowl.

I was moping around, actually in tears, and a few guys were trying to lift me up, like, ‘It’s gonna be alright man. We’ve got to worry about what’s in front of us.’

Then The Pharaoh himself walks up to me—I used to call Brady The Pharoah and he hated that—Brady walks up to me and says, ‘Hey B, you think I play this shit to go to Pro Bowls? Get it together. Get your head up. We’re trying to win rings. That’s what it is here.’

That’s where I knew what kind of environment I was in, how blessed I was.”
