Nick Cannon Says Eminem Didn’t Respond To His Disses Because ‘He Knows Better’ And Mariah Carey Might Want To Get A Body Bag Ready

As I creep toward the end of my 20s, I’ve been slowly coming to terms with the reality that I’m officially washed, as I’ve spent the past few years attempting to keep up with what’s hot in the streets with Kids These Days until basically saying “Fuck it” after trying to learn the intricacies of TikTok and failing in spectacular fashion.

I haven’t reached a point where I’m constantly shaking my fists at the youths of the world while demanding they stop liking things that make me feel out of touch—including the vast majority of rap artists to break into the mainstream in recent years.

Compared to what I grew up with, the current hip-hop landscape is about as recognizable as the world Charlton Heston stumbled upon in Planet of the Apes—sure, it’s technically the same sphere but I never would’ve guessed it’d come to be ruled by the people who are wielding the majority of the power.

If a genie wearing an Adidas tracksuit and a bucket hat suddenly appeared to grant me three rap-related wishes, I’d probably ask him to first release Asher Roth out of the box “I Love College” put him in and then see if he could permanently erase the era of ringtone rap from hip-hop history (but I’d let Hurricane Chris keep his loyalties).

As for my final one? More beef than a damn Arby’s.

I’m not saying I’d like to see the rap game return to the days where the biggest names were getting gunned down over lyrics, but over the course of the last decade, there was a severe shortage of the bitter feuds and savage diss tracks that resulted in some of the most memorable music to come out of the two that proceeded it.

Eminem has an almost unparalleled propensity to piss people off, and over the years, he’s found himself engaged in verbal wars with a large and diverse list of people—rappers and otherwise—and is widely considered bulletproof by many fellow artists who will never attack him because they know it can only end poorly.

When you consider “Rapping” might not even appear on the board if contestants were asked to answer “What is Nick Cannon known for?” on an episode of Family Feud, I don’t know if you can even count him among Eminem’s peers. However, Dave Chappelle’s (son’s) favorite comedian certainly does.

Slim Shady had been beefing with Mariah Carey for a while when Cannon wandered into his crosshairs after he married the singer and the two of them have been going back and forth since then because the Wild ‘N Out host is apparently addicted to taking Ls.

Last year, Cannon revealed he’d once unsuccessfully tried to track down Eminem so they could settle their differences with their fists, and a couple of months later, he and his wife were at the receiving end of another shot from their longtime antagonist.

After it came to his attention, Cannon found some time between hosting improv shows and the furry community’s favorite singing competition to issue a response. While Eminem fired back, he declined to continue engaging despite his foe’s best efforts (which were very, very bad efforts) to provoke him and Cannon used that radio silence as an excuse to declare victory after other disses went unanswered.

He was recently asked about that latest tiff during an interview with Billboard that made it clear Nick Cannon lives in a very different world than the one inhabited by the rest of us, as he suggested one of the most legendary rappers of all time realized he’d finally met his match in the form of a game show host who managed to beat him into submission:

You gotta remember, I was defending myself once again. He keeps bringing it up for decades. I’m one of those cats that matches energy. I don’t do it—I overdo it. Even in high school, I was a little guy, but if you made fun of me, I was gonna make fun of you, your momma, and that’s the same energy of Wild ‘N Out.

It was a month of social commentary, but if you’ve ever heard me speak on this matter, I always give that dude his props as an icon in hip-hop. I think he knows better now. If he keeps talking about me, I’m gonna keep talking back.

That’s certainly one possible explanation but I’d like to recruit the services of Don Draper to highlight another possible reason.

I’m not saying Eminem is going to respond after this but I do know he’s probably got plenty of time on his hands while on lockdown in Michigan so Nick might want to grab a shovel and start digging a grave so the morgue doesn’t have to waste resources on someone who willingly signed their own death warrant.
