Deshaun Watson, one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, did not play a down during the entire 2021 NFL season. He wasn’t injured. He was never officially suspended. He wasn’t placed on any reserve list. He was just ruled out of all 17 of the Houston Texans games for “not injury-related” reasons.

Those reasons were the 22 civil complaints alleging sexual misconduct as well as 10 criminal complaints.

Everyone just assumed all season that at some point the Texans would trade Watson to another team. It was also assumed that at some point the NFL would weigh in with a suspension or some form of punishment for Watson. Neither of those things happened.

The Texans’ asking price remained stubborn all season in their desire to hit the mother lode in a trade of Deshaun Watson.

While the NFL and its commissioner Roger Goodell merely confused and angered football fans by basically washing their hands of the situation for the moment. After all, the Houston Texans are still paying Deshaun Watson, he’s just not playing.

There is no shortage of teams interested in trading for Deshaun Watson

The list of teams not interested in possibly acquiring Watson is probably shorter than the list of teams that do want the talented QB.

Teams that have been mentioned as possible destinations for the 26-year-old three-time Pro Bowler include the Steelers, Giants, Dolphins, Panthers, Eagles, Broncos, and Buccaneers.

Watson, however, reportedly has narrowed his preferred list of teams down to just two, according to ESPN.

Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano report that Watson is somehow still “early in the evaluation process” and “has begun evaluating potential fits for his services in 2022.”

They also report that the QB is looking for a team with “the right blend of offensive system, coaching, talent and, most importantly, the chance to win.”

The two teams that have apparently caught his eye are the Minnesota Vikings and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the report claims.

In Minnesota, Kirk Cousins just had perhaps the best year of his career, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 4,221 yards and 33 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. Everyone knows what the situation is now in Tampa Bay.

New Texans head coach Lovie Smith was recently asked if there was a estimated time frame for when Watson will be traded. And he will be traded.

“As soon as possible. I’m not running away from the question, but as soon as possible,” Smith told Sports Illustrated, while running away from the question.

“There are things that need to be taken care of before the football part comes into play. We’re patient, we’ve waited an entire year and I just feel like this offseason, it’ll come to an end and we’ll get it solved and it’ll be good for both parties, whatever that might be.

“There’s no other answer to give right now except for that one, and we’re going to try to get it resolved as soon as we possibly can. But we don’t play tomorrow. We have a little bit of time, and we’ll get it done.”
